Marriott Mena House, Cairo
A legendary former royal hunting lodge set in gardens at the foot of the Great Pyramid. Many rooms and the pool terrace look straight at Khufu’s pyramid.
- Pyramid-view rooms
- Historic palace wing
- Large pool & gardens
There are no hotels at the necropolis itself — but some of Egypt’s most memorable hotels are less than an hour away. Here’s where to base yourself, and our favourite places to sleep.
Dahshur is a day trip, not an overnight stop. The best base depends on what else you want to do: Giza puts you closest to the pyramids (about 40 minutes from Dahshur), central Cairo is best for museums, food and nightlife, and Maadi is the quietest Cairo district and the closest to Dahshur.

Dahshur is where Egypt learned to build true pyramids — and where you can still walk inside one with barely anyone else around. Pick a tour with pickup from Cairo or Giza and book in a couple of taps.
No — Dahshur is an archaeological zone surrounded by farming villages, with no tourist hotels. Most visitors stay in Giza or central Cairo and visit on a half-day or day trip.
Giza is best if the pyramids (including Dahshur and Saqqara) are your priority — you’ll be up to an hour closer. Central Cairo is better for museums, Islamic and Coptic Cairo, dining and nightlife.
About 25 km, or roughly 40 minutes by car along the Saqqara road — less early in the morning.
